Many
of you already know Chris and I are adopting a little
girl from China. We would like to share with you
our story and excitement in having a daughter added
to our family.
Chris and I have three sons, Caleb -7,
Dylan -5 and Nathan -15. And now, we are only 4 months
away from having our little girl!
Many people have asked why we have decided
to adopt – especially when we already have 3
children. Since I can remember, it has been a desire
of mine to adopt a child. I have known for a long
time God has called to me to love children in a special
way. Chris and I started foster parenting over 6 years
ago and have had the privilege of caring for a number
of beautiful children. In that time, as we were caring
for our foster children, I began thinking about adopting
again. As you can imagine, life was pretty crazy for
a while with young children around the house, as we
were graduating from University, building careers
and just living life. I kept telling myself I was
crazy to think about adopting another child when we
were so busy with our own 3. But God kept tugging
at my heart and I kept thinking about having a daughter.
Then I had to get my husband onboard! Over the years
I had talked about this with Chris but not with much
seriousness. I finally knew it was time for the big
talk. Chris was actually not hard to convince –
Chris has a very loving heart and is a terrific father,
so we both knew adding a daughter was the right thing
for our family. After finally warming up to the reality,
we started making calls to begin the adoption process.
From that moment, Chris and I haven’t looked
back! The boys picked out the name “Alyssa”
for their new sister and we are now very close to
knowing who she is! We will receive information on
our daughter in December and we will travel to China
in January to bring her home!
We started our adoption process in May
2003, so it has been a long wait for all of us. Caleb
and Dylan have asked over and over, “Is it this
weekend we get Alyssa?” As you can imagine it’s
a lot of weekends to answer “No, not this one.”
The boys are very excited about being big brothers
to a little sister. They have helped me pick out stuffed
animals for Alyssa’s crib and pretty dresses
for her to wear. They have even
